The Edole is the only castle built by the Bishop of Kurzeme (1264), which is still habitable.

During the long existence of the castle, though suffering several times in wars and fires, it has always been rebuilt and rebuilt. The castle didn't generally get its current look until the 30 s of the 19 th century, when neo-Gothic facades were created to suit its taste at the time.
