It's a 'closed' country where visitors aka tourists are not that well received. It has a long history of antisemitism too. I went to school in my teens with Hungarian refugees and can testify to this feeling. Locals are just getting used to the fact that most travellers speak some English — a language they do not like! Younger people are coming around and trying to change things but still… everybody is deeply nationalistic.
