A disappointing visit to Mauritius. After seeing all the beautiful pictures of stunning beaches and 5-star hotels and researching best beaches to visit, we went to Flic-en-Flac. The Beach was full of trees, grass and stones and the sea itself with no waves just a few ripples on the shoreline — definitely not a swimming beach. Lots of boats to take you on a boatride and no beach umbrellas or chairs to sit down on except those purported to be owned by the local hotels and rented out if required. A few benches that were occupied by other beachcombers. The village itself is small and has a diverse culture which is evidenced by some derelict buildings and poor road conditions in some areas as well as nicely tarred roads and restaurants in others. We were fortunate to have superb accommodation amongst poverty and close to the Police Station with one block to the beach in one direction and a few hundred metres further to the main beach. Our accommodation and the people we met made up for the disappointing beach. We will tick this one off our bucket list for now.
