either walk a lot or use the public transportation that is very good, for example take the tram from the city center up to the Castle and Cathedral and then walk down to town, long walk but worthwhile
Eat local, at the street is much cheaper than in tourist restaurants. Supermarkets are filled on Friday and all imported products are expensive. Local fruits and especially spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, bay leaf) are extremely cheap.
Never keep all your cash together. In local small traditional villages, women sell souvenirs and tend to take all your money out your hand.
