Fatehpur Sikri is a city and municipality in India in Agra district (Uttar Pradesh). The historic city was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1570, and was the capital between 1571 and 1585, when it was abandoned for uncertain reasons. The remains of the city, quite well preserved, are a tourist attraction and have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
