Both are great countries to visit with lots of history, great coast and mountains and wonderful countryside. Good food abounds — it's difficult to eat badly in either place — and great wine also. Choose one, without worrying too much, but be sure to make time for a second trip to the other before too long :-)

Really depends what your preference is. Beaches? Just take a cheap flight to the Spanish south or east coast. City night life? Barcelona or Ibiza. Culture? Rome or Sicily. Great food? Both! A good combination of food, sightseeing and city? Madrid or Milan.

It's not an easy choice as there are so many things to see in either country.

Italy and Spain have both a super highspeed train system. Italy is 60% of the size of Spain and has more art and ruins to visit than any other country in the world. Spain has a mixed cultural heritage of Roman and Islamic origin. Italy has less drunken tourists than Spain.

Italy 1st then if you have extra time can visit spain. Italy have more amazing town, city, arts and ruins to visit. If you are the food hunter, then definately Italy. Every region have their own speciality/traditional cuisine. The most variety of cheese and wine.

Italy is super hot at least thru mid October (when I visited), not sure about the rest of the year. Food is fantastic. So many things to see and do. However, the people there are quite rude to foreigners, with Venice being the worst. Milan and Pompeii had the nicest people. Convenience stops are all over, but the clerks will try to sneak extras onto your bill, like adding bags that you have to pay for (but they don't tell you that until you ask why your bill is so high). Taxi stops are everywhere like bus stops in other countries and you have to identify your driver. If you ask the wrong one, they ignore you or even growl at you as one did with me when I stopped to inquire if he was the taxi I had ordered. Also, watch for pickpockets. Gypsies are everywhere, and they're out to take your money. If you can ignore the people, you'll love it.
